Blackjack

What is BlackJack?

The objective of Blackjack is to beat the dealer’s hand without going over 21. You can play up to three hands in each round. The aim is to get a hand with a value of 21 or closer to 21 than the dealer. If your cards are closer to 21 than the dealer's, you win an equal amount to your bet. If you have received blackjack, you win 3 to 2 times your bet (assuming the dealer does not have blackjack). Aces count as either 1 or 11, face cards as 10, and remaining cards according to their number values.

If the total of your cards exceeds 21, you "bust" and lose the wager. If you have the same card total as the dealer, from 17 and up, there is a push. Blackjack is obtained when you receive an ace and a ten on your initial two cards. Blackjack beats a score of 21.

The game uses six decks of cards, which are reshuffled after each round. You may not re-split a split hand. You may double after splitting. The 7-card Charlie rule is in effect for this game meaning that if you hit and receive a total of 7 cards without going bust, you will win your hand automatically.

How to Play

Before pressing deal you need to place a bet, to do so start by selecting which chip value you would like to bet by left-clicking wanted chip value in the middle of the bottom bar. Place the chips within as many of the three bet areas as you like by left-clicking within the areas. As soon as you've reached the amount you would like to bet press DEAL.

Once the cards have been dealt you have numerous options depending on the outcome of the deal, note that you are first to act, the dealer will not reveal his face down card or be hit with any cards until you have either busted or decided to stand.

Stand

If you're satisfied with your hand as-is you may stand pat.

Hit

If you wish to take another card you may continue to do so until you either stand or bust. If you hit until you have a 7-card hand that totals below 21 or equal to 21 the hand is called a 7-card Charlie and wins you the hand automatically, the dealer will not hit to beat your hand.

Double

When you have been dealt two cards you can "double". The wager is doubled, and only one card is given to you. You may double when the value of your first two cards are 9-11.

Split

If your first two cards are of the same value, you may split them into two separate hands, placing a second wager of equal value. You then proceed to draw cards as usual. However, if you split two aces, you will only get one additional card for each hand. If you split two aces and one of your hands totals 21, the hand is not considered as blackjack, but as 21. Re-splitting is not allowed.

Late Surrender

In case you feel that your initial hand is not good you may surrender, which means you surrender half of your bet and retrieve the other half. Late surrender is only available directly once the cards have been dealt with the exception of insurance which occurs before in case the dealer receives an ace face up.

Insurance

Insurance is a game of its own within blackjack, which gives you a chance to protect yourself from dealer blackjack. If the dealer’s first card is an ace, insurance against dealer blackjack can be bought for half the price of the initial bet. After the insurance option has been presented and you have made your choice the dealer will peek his facedown card to see whether or not he has a blackjack. If the dealer does have blackjack, the insurance pays 2 to 1, corresponding to the amount of the initial bet. If insurance is bought and the dealer does not have blackjack, the insurance bet is lost.

After you have played your hands, from the dealer's left to right, the dealer will play his hand. The dealer must draw cards until he has at least 17, and must stand at 17 or higher. If the dealer has soft 17 i.e. a hand totaling 17 containing an Ace, the ace is counted as one and the dealer must draw another card. If the dealer gets 16 or lower, he must take another card. The dealer may not decide whether or not to draw a card based on your hand, but must abide by existing dealer rules.

When the dealer’s up card is an ace, the dealer will peek under the other card to check for blackjack. If the dealer has blackjack, he will immediately turn over his second card to finish the round and settle the bets. If both the dealer and the player have blackjack, the hand will push.
